Wow, summer is coming to an end quickly! I hope everyone had some time to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Please remember that we would like to continually update our web page with news from around New York state. That means we need your help with articles. Please submit any news about your jurisdiction to Aida Tejaratchi or me and we will get it posted online.
Here in Monroe County, the Pre-Trial Services Corporation (PTSC); Catholic Family Center; Restart Substance Abuse Services; and the Monroe County Office of Mental Health were awarded a three-year federal grant to enhance services to the jailed population of women with co-occurring disorders of mental health and substance abuse. We began providing direct services under this grant in July 2008.
Target Population: women held in the Monroe County Jail who are identified as having both a problem with mental health and substance use. The focus will be on women held after arraignment, but those who have records of poor performance on past criminal contacts will be identified earlier, at arraignment.
Program Goals: to reduce the recycling of this population and maintain them successfully in the community by intervening with an intensive case management/supervision model as well as an integrated mental health and substance abuse treatment plan.
We are very optimistic that this intensive intervention will assist these clients with addressing some serious issues in their lives and getting them on the right track.
The NAPSA conference is right around the corner and we hope to see you all in Milwaukee.
Regards,
Craig McNair
